Zapier is a tool that helps you automate repetitive tasks between two or more apps, without having to write code. When an event happens in one app, Zapier can tell another app to do a particular action (Zap). In this case, we're creating a message in Slack every time you publish a news article in the newsroom.

The setup:

The setup is twofold: Make sure you've completed part 1, on our Zapier Integrations page and then you can complete the process with the instructions below. At this point you should be in the Set up Action section.

1. From the list of apps, choose or search for Slack.

2. In this article, we're 'sending a message to a public channel', but here you could choose whichever action you prefer.

3. Next, under Choose account, add the appropriate Slack account.

4. Create the message you'd like to appear, using the variables of the release. You can format your text with emojis, bold text, mentions and more. This Zapier formatting document shows you how.

This is our example so you can see how it looks live:

5. Read through and complete the rest of the fields in the Set up action section. Hit Continue.

6. Click Test action. This will send an example message to your Slack channel so you can review before publishing your Zap.

7. Make any changes you need to in the previous step, and then publish your Zap!

And that's it!
