Leads and subscribers are both optional features available in your newsroom that allow visitors to sign up and receive news updates about your company.

Leads

The leads feature allows visitors to subscribe to email updates with details of your latest press releases, but requires you to manually email them. Once someone has completed the form in the newsroom (available just before the footer on the homepage and contact page), all Publishers in your account will receive an email so you can review and qualify or disqualify that lead.

If you qualify a lead, they will automatically be dropped into a special contact list in your CRM so you can email them as you would your other press contacts. The contact will then also receive a confirmation email that they've been added to your newsroom leads list.

If you disqualify a lead, the lead will not receive any further emails, and they will not be added to your CRM, although you'll always be able to see a list of disqualified leads in your platform which you can permanently delete or put into the CRM if you change your mind.

How visitors can become a lead

There is a Receive exclusive news call-to-action on your newsroom homepage and contact page, just above the footer.

This call-to-action takes visitors to the leads from where they can fill out their details. We ask them insightful questions that provide you with a full picture of who they are so you can better you assess and qualify new leads.

Once your visitor has completed the form, they'll receive a success notification on the same page, and you will be sent the qualify/disqualify email to approve them.

Qualifying a lead

When you qualify a lead, the lead is:

  • added to the CRM contact list “Qualified leads: {your_newsroom_name}”

  • tagged with “Qualified_lead”

  • tagged with “News_topic:{topic_name}” (When someone signs up, they are given a choice of topics that are pulled from your newsroom tags. You can use this information to send them relevant news.)

Now that you have that lead in your CRM, you can:

  • add them to one (or more) of your contact lists

  • add more information or notes about in their individual contact page

  • add them to your email distribution lists

Subscribers

The subscribers feature allows visitors to subscribe to email updates with details of your latest press releases. Once someone has subscribed, we automatically start sending email updates so they can keep up to date right from their inbox. Of course, if you haven't published any news, no email are sent.

Subscribers can choose from four email frequencies:

  • Daily digests, daily at 02:00

  • Weekly digests, Mondays at 02:00

  • Monthly digests, first day of the month at 02:00

  • Immediate updates, immediately

💡 Check your timezone is correct in the Settings as we base the send times on that. E.g. if your newsroom is set to GMT+02:00, we send digest emails at 02:00 in that timezone.

Once your visitor has subscribed, they will need to confirm their subscription using a link in an email we send automatically.

You can find your newsroom subscribers by clicking the Subscribers menu item in the sidebar. You can see who subscribed, when, which topics they follow, when they were last emailed, and their email frequency preference.

Got an unwanted subscriber? Click Unsubscribe to stop them from receiving automated news updates.

How visitors can subscribe

There is a Subscribe to news call-to-action in your newsroom footer and in the hero section of topic pages.

These call-to-actions all lead visitors to the subscribe flow: an overlay modal where they can subscribe via email or RSS.

You can also directly link to the subscribe modal by appending #subscribe to your newsroom URL, i.e. http://news.pr.co/#subscribe.

Once your visitor has subscribed, they will need to confirm their subscription using a link in an email we send automatically.

New subscriber notifications

Every time someone signs up to your news as a subscriber, all users with a Publisher role will receive an email notification with the person's details.

You can turn off these emails in your notification settings.

Leads or subscribers?

You can choose to enable any combination you like, whenever you like;

  • Leads only. Great for maximum control over which contacts receive what information. We recommend this approach for clients who use the CRM and email sending services regularly.

  • Subscribers only. Perfect for a hands off approach. We'll email your clients updates for you and you won't need to do a thing.

  • Leads and subscribers. Useful for clients who distinguish between types of client. This combined service allows for media contacts as leads and general visitors as subscribers.

  • None. Perhaps you have your own system already in place. If so, let us know as there's always a possibility to integrate pr.co with other apps.

If you choose not to have either option, the leads feature simply disappears from your contact and homepage, whereas the subscribers feature is replaced with a 'get in touch' message that leads visitors to the contact page.

💡 If you'd rather not have the subscribe option, we can replace the text above with copy of your choice and link the CTA to a page in your website.

Enabling leads & subscribers

Both features are optional (only subscribers option is available with a press page) so you can choose to enable or disable them at any time.

Use the checkboxes below in your newsroom's Settings page and click the Save changes button.

⚠️ If you disable the subscribers feature, any existing subscribers will continue to receive updates. You'll need to unsubscribe each person in your subscriber list to avoid that.
